Format
A three day event for teams of four with a “PROLOGUE” on Friday evening: off-road cycling and running on Saturday and further demanding multisport endurance challenges on the Sunday. All based out of Sandy Balls Holiday Centre and in partnership with other outdoor activity centres, teams will be based in luxury 6 berth lodges and have use of all the site’s fantastic Leisure facilities throughout the weekend. Breakfast and main meal each day is also included and if you can spare a little extra time you don’t even need to leave until Monday morning.
In true RaceNewForest tradition the days are planned to attract participants of all standards from beginners through to some of Britain's best adventure racers. The weekend would also make a fantastic pre-season training camp for triathletes looking for something a bit different.
Racing
Whether trail running or mountain biking there will be a range of checkpoints to visit and navigation between checkpoints will be relatively straight forward, with the course designed so that you can make use of the many cycle paths, byways and bridleways in the area.
Basic map-reading skills will be really helpful!!
The Prologue will be a short bike/run event on-site at Sandy Balls early Friday evening, followed by a Buffet at which details of Saturday’s activities will be presented.
Similarly, details of Sunday’s schedule will be revealed at Saturday’s buffet / party!
Courses
Some elements will be over prescribed courses, others will offer significant opportunities for route choice / planning and will incorporate many of our favourite (probably undulating!) parts of the Forest.
For a rough idea of distances involved you should plan / train for off-road cycling up to 40 - 45 miles and Trail-running / trekking circa 25 miles or so…….but those of you who have raced with us before will know from experience that I’m not the best at making these estimates!!! Suffice to say that Saturday will be “a challenge”!!
Teams
The event is designed for teams of four and there are no restrictions on the make up of teams. There will be prizes for the first Men’s, Women’s and Mixed team “winners” but the emphasis is on participation, camaraderie and good old fashioned fun!!
All team members will take part in all activities although there will also be an element of “tactical” deployment at times
Since each team will be based in a 6 berth Lodge there will be space for a couple of supporters / masseurs / mechanics / general hangers-on per team!!!! (POA)
